I have been a self-employedtranslator and proofreader since January 2003, working from English and French into my native Spanish.
I have two degrees: English Philology from Madrid’s Complutense University and Translation and Interpreting from the University of Salamanca.
I see every project as an adventure; an experience. I thoroughly enjoy fitting together every piece of the puzzle to make sure my clients end up with a carefully crafted piece of work.
I love what I do, and I’m always looking to pass that passion on to others, so I also deliver a range of classes and lectures. My teaching work also allows me to pay forward some of the invaluable guidance I have received not only in my years of training, but also during my time as a professional.
I had the privilege of starting my career at the United Nations, in New York.
Since then, I have specialised in two fairly different branches of translation: text translation (international organisations, teaching materials, advertising copy and documents related to humanities, art and culture) and translation for audiovisual media.
I have a wealth of experience in translating documentaries on culture, social issues, politics and science, mainly for the TVE programmes La noche temática and Documentos TV.
I used to head up the audiobooks department at a publishing house.
And the production department at an audio guide company, too.
I was a documentary supervisor at a major dubbing studio.
I am an audiobook director and “prooflistener” since 2021.
I’m a lecturer in Audiovisual Translation and Advertising Translation at Comillas Pontifical University, in Madrid.
I also teach Audiovisual Translation at Cálamo y Cran, on the Master’s Degree at the UAM/UCM and on the Master’s Degree at the European University of Valencia.
I set up an audiobook production company (Aloído) and a training company for language professionals (Con trazo firme).
I am a professional member of Asetrad (the Spanish Association of Translators, Proofreaders & Interpreters) and Atrae (the Spanish Association of Audiovisual Translation and Adaptation).
I work with the Asetrad magazine La Linterna del Traductor as head of the Audiovisual Translation section.
I have been a designated Asetrad board member for training for five years.
I am lucky enough to be part of an incredibly generous, supportive professional community, and we are always on hand to welcome, encourage and support newcomers to our much-loved profession.
